The Vampyre – Biographies

Director's Notes
I would like to take this opportunity to talk about my cast of The Vamprye. This play has brought me great satisfaction in a couple of ways. The production has given me a chance, once again, to work with the creative minds of Corrina Smith and Krisi Pilkington. The three of us, for the most part, view a scene, a role and even the set in the same way, but we also see things differently. I'm grateful we were all able to speak freely. With all plays that I've directed, I try and involve the actors in some of the decisions too; this cast is wonderful with ideas and has developed into a superior cast. The Vamprye is a bit "out there," as is the cast; bravo to them for going that extra mile to create their own characters and bringing them alive on stage. Thank you, cast, for letting me come to the theatre, relax and bring to this community a play for all to enjoy.

-- Debbie Baumann

Corrina Smith (Co-Director)
Amused that she was approached to direct this play, Corrina decided it was because of her pale skin, wickedly sharp canines, allergy to sunlight, piercing gaze, and the ability to silently appear from thin air. As she has been referred to as a vampyre from a very young age, she identifies with Lord Ruthven. Dracula is still her favorite romantic movie, although Underworld is a close second.

Debbie Baumann (Co-Director)
Debbie is back in the driver’s seat again, directing. This time she was asked to co-direct with her friend of more than ten years, Corrina Smith. Debbie and Corrina have had a great run with Dreamweavers and with this play. She is hoping to gain an even greater friendship, if they don't kill each other first! Thanks once again to all Debbie's close friends and family for all their support who allow her one of her greatest passions, theatre.

Joanna Bourne (Mrs. Kent)
An experienced British domestic, Joanna was a perfect fit for our production.  Luckily for Dreamweavers’ co-directors par excellence, Corrina Smith and Debbie Baumann, Joanna was rejected to consult on television’s Nanny 9-1-1.  Instead, she brought her considerable talents to Napa and limped right into the role of everyone’s darling, Mrs. Kent.  This is Joanna’s very first, grown-up, theatrical endeavour.

Mary Ewart (Tess)
Mary received her BA from Mills College and is connected to the National Shakespeare Conservatory and Marymount London Program where Tony award winner, Live Schreiber, was a colleague. Her most memorable role was Olivia in Twelfth Night, directed by legendary Brecht protégée, Margeret Roma. She has done performance art work and been a movie extra. She wishes happy birthday to her son, Patrick, born Nov. 12, 2004.

Gabriel Frey (Bones)
Making his Dreamweavers debut, Gabe is thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful and talented cast. A native in the Napa Valley, he believes a creative and artistic mind can greatly attribute to one’s personal growth. An avid writer by night, he looks forward to bringing his characters to life from the page to the stage. He would like to personally thank everyone who supports Dreamweavers Theatre. On his downtime you can probably find him cruising to the tunes of his favorite band, Depeche Mode.

Bob Kays (Roger Holstein)
This is Bob’s second production; his first was as Sheriff Will Masters in Bus Stop. Bob is an officer with the CHP and has worked in the Napa area for almost ten years. He would like to thank his supervisors and co-workers who allowed him to adjust his work schedule to meet the demands of this production, and to especially thank his wife, Jane, for allowing him time away from home.

Jessica MacMillan (Lydia)
Jessica is very happy to return to Dreamweavers Theatre once again. Her past performances include roles in Bus Stop, Picnic, Steel Magnolias and Sylvia. When she is not on stage or performing as Marilyn Monroe, Jessica is a first grade teacher for Napa Valley Unified School District. Jessica enjoys integrating performing arts into the curriculum.  She would like to thank her family and friends as well as the fabulous cast and crew for making this a wonderful experience.

Marcus Magdaleno (Lord Ruthven)
Marcus joins us for his second production at Dreamweavers. After tackling the lead role of Charles in Blithe Spirit he was ready for his second lead in his aspiring career in theater and film.  Marcus recently decided to halt his career as a marine biologist to pursue his MFA in Theater Arts at ACT in San Francisco. .Marcus would like to thank his father Lou, mother Yolanda, sister Danielle, stepmother Karen, close friends Ted French and Bill Turner, and the rest of his friends and family for their overwhelming support in the pursuit of his dreams.

Mark Mautner/Brooklyn Santiago
(Artemis/Artema Corso)

Mark enjoys community theater so much he has committed to his fifth show at Dreamweavers in a calendar year. Some of Mark’s favorite roles include Dr. Lyman in Bus Stop and Arnold Epstein in Biloxi Blues. Mark is committed to further exploration of the artistic process through theater, the development of empathic relationships be they personal, professional or fictional, and considers himself blessed to be able to work with the wonderful people at Dreamweavers Theatre.

Brooklyn is excited to return to the stage with Dreamweavers Theatre. Her debut role as Shelby in Steel Magnolias this spring was a phenomenal experience and she looks forward to having such a connection with this character...a Greek vampyre slayer. Brooklyn would like to thank the audience for supporting our local theatre and M.P. for everything else!

Patte Quinn (Constance Holstein)
Patt has performed many plays at Riverfront Playhouse in Redding and here at Dreamweavers Theatre.  She wants to thank Dey Laboratories for generously sponsoring the last two shows of this year AND being a 2006 Season Sponsor.  Also thank you to the fine team of dentists, Drs. Quinn, de Lorimier, Pappas, Politz and Bird who are sponsoring The Vampyre as well. They wish to see Lord Ruthven improve his “bite.”

Hayden Scott (Aubrey)
We were lucky to get Hayden, fresh from a production of Hell’s Fire at the Socially Unacceptable Home for Boys, for the role of the womanizing, drug-abusing Aubrey. Asked how he prepared for the role, Hayden assured us that he need not act for this part as he lives it daily.

Robert Silva (Durwood Lennox)
Originally from Napa, Robert first studied drama with Napa Children's Theater at the age of fifteen. He then studied drama and music at Napa High School. His performances with Dreamweavers include Bus Stop, Biloxi Blues and Sylvia. In addition to his work in the theater, he is also an active local musician.

Rose Marie Sweeney (Lady Harwood)
The Vampyre is Rose Marie's sixth Dreamweavers production. Other home state venues include Contra Costa Christian Theatre, Benicia Old Town Theatre Group, Napa Valley College and MIRA Theatre Guild in Vallejo. Sadly, Rose Marie has no life outside the theatre and must constantly audition to maintain some slight level of sanity.
